Everyday Do List: A Daily Task List to Transform Your Life
What is an Everyday Do List?
An Everyday Do List is a short list of very attainable tasks to accomplish every single day without fail. These tasks are small actions that will shift your momentum ever so slightly towards being the kind of person you want to be, the person you are on your best day.
These tasks should be small enough to be doable on even the most chaotic day of your life. The day you leave for the airport. The day you start a new job. The day you sit in your PJs on the couch and binge-watch Reign for hours on end.
What tasks are on my Everyday Do List?
I’m a few weeks into my new job as an au pair in Queenstown, New Zealand. My current Everyday Do List is designed to develop healthy habits, build connections, and enjoy the little things.
Why is making a bed on my Everyday Do List? It takes one minute. It’s not hard to do. It’s also sort of unnecessary considering you’ll be back snuggled under the covers as soon as humanly possible.
A made bed also signals stability. It’s a tiny sense of home for someone who doesn’t have a key to her name. As an au pair, my bedroom is the only place that is truly my space. I’m turning mine into a haven by having a fluffy made bed to return to after a day chasing a toddler around.
10 minutes of stretching
This task lands on my Everyday Do List because it’s a very attainable way to feel healthier and happier. It’s 10 minutes of calm in even the most chaotic day. It’s 10 minutes of putting your health first.
Plus, it’s a health-focused goal that can be done anywhere in the world. A dark hostel dorm room? Yep. An airplane aisle? Sure.
Text or call someone I love from home
The life of a long-term traveler can get lonely and it’s easy to feel disconnected from the people that matter most. As a full-time traveler, you are constantly meeting new people and in social settings. Sometimes, those experiences are surface level.
By having this on my Everyday Do List, I’m strongly putting the onus on myself in fostering those back-home relationships. It’s easily been the most rewarding thing I’ve put on my everyday do list.
Take a walk outside
I’m happiest when in walking in nature. I’ve learned that much about myself after spending my summer tramping around Switzerland and walking the Camino de Santiago in Spain. Sometimes, I forget how important this activity is to making me feel like myself.
The hardest part for me is getting out the door. This simple task on my Everyday Do List is a daily reminder for me to foster a healthy mental and physical relationship.

Why does it matter enough to be on my Everyday Do List? I’m living the best year of my life and I want to remember all of the little moments that make up this life of long-term travel.
3 Tips for making your own Everyday Do List
Don’t choose tasks that require additional effort beyond the task itself For example, tasks like “do a high intensity workout” or “run 3 miles” also requires a shower. That means a task that is on a simple Everyday Do List becomes something that may not get completed.
Make them tasks that can be done at any time of day Some days you wake up 30 minutes after your alarm and all hope of an early morning yoga session is smashed. Make sure that your tasks can be done regardless of when your day may be derailed.
Choose the smallest possible action to achieve your goals If you want to be healthier mentally, what is the smallest action you can take to improve your mental state? Put it on your Everyday Do List. If you want to improve socially, what is the smallest action you can take to change your social life? That belongs on your Everyday Do List.
Don’t be overly ambitious Remember this Everyday Do List is about moving the needle. It’s not about overhauling your life completely (yet). Make sure that your tasks are small enough to encourage you, rather than discourage you.
