Where in the World Wednesday: Queenstown, New Zealand Edition
It’s been a long time since I’ve written a Where in the World Wednesday post. It’s been a quiet category mostly because I’ve spent the last two months enjoying a lot of time with family and friends in Michigan. That changed in a big way last week when I traveled to the southern hemisphere for the first time ever!
Where in the world are you?
I’m in Queenstown, New Zealand where I’ll be spending the next few months as an au pair.
What have you been up to?
I spent 21 hours on airplanes last week and landed in beautiful New Zealand. The experience was surprisingly enjoyable thanks to these long-haul flight tips.
Immediately after landing in Queenstown, I met the family I’ll be spending the next few months with. They welcomed me with open arms and it felt great to settle into life here.
I’ve mostly been bonding with the little one I’ll be caring for 30 hours a week. I’ve also been running errands and taking small trips around the area to acclimate to driving on the left. It’s been easier than I expected to drive here in New Zealand.
I’ve also explored nearby Arrowtown and one of it’s very tasty cafes, Provisions of Arrowtown.
My Saturday was spent being a full-on tourist by riding the Queenstown gondola, sneaking in a short hike at the top, and walking by the waterfront.
What are you currently reading?
I’m reading bits and pieces of Meet Cute right now during nap times and quiet nights. It’s kind of like reading the best parts of a rom com.
Where are you going to next?
I’m actually heading to Melbourne, Australia for a long weekend trip. I’m going to explore Melbourne’s world class cafes and go to the Australian Open tennis tournament.
After going to Wimbledon last summer, I’m hooked and am on a mission to go to each of the four grand slam tennis tournaments. I figured I’ll probably never be closer than I am now!
I also can’t wait to visit another continent.
Where in the world are you this Wednesday? What’s happening in your neck of the woods?
