Every Wednesday, I share where in the world I am, what I’m doing there, where I’m planning to go next, my general thoughts on the latest week of travel, and what I’m currently reading.

Where in the world are you?

I’ve made my way to my quaint hometown of Holland, Michigan.

I left beautiful Lisbon, Portugal on Friday after wandering all over the city on foot staring at all of the gorgeous facades.

What are you doing there?

Michigan is experiencing peak fall weather, so I’ve been spending the crisp fall days raking leaves, drinking chai tea, and playing this addicting board game with family. I was expecting to see my parents, but my sister (who long time readers will recognize from here) also surprised me at the airport!

What are you currently reading?

I spent quite a few travel hours thoroughly enjoying A Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee. The delightfully fun Young Adult novel follows a delinquent son of an English earl as his tour of Europe turns much more adventurous than planned. I loved every page of it.

I’ve just started the third book in George R.R. Martin’s Song of Ice and Fire series, A Storm of Swords. I’ve been told that it’s one of the best in the series, so I’m excited to dive back into the complex web of characters and plot twists.

I also have a big stack of Book of the Month Club picks to work through. I think Kate Morton’s The Clockmaker’s Daughter is at the top of the stack.

What are you thinking about these days?

I have two major battles going on in my brain right now.

On the one hand, I’m visiting all the friends, hugging all of the family members, and taking advantage of the time I’m lucky enough to have here.

On the other, I’m dreaming about where I’ll go after the holidays are up. I’ve been interviewing for an opportunity to au pair in New Zealand and debating if I want to spend a few months in the southern hemisphere.

Where are you going to next?

I’ll probably be parking it right here until the holidays are over. Even so, I have a few road trips to visit friends up my sleeve so I won’t be sitting still for long.
