This book has been on my TBR forever, but it pops up as a life-changing book for so many. I’m hoping that it’s magic, wisdom and wonder inspires me.

Potts is an O.G. travel writer and expert in living life on your own terms. It’s a handbook to living life out of the norm. As someone who likes a good guidebook, I think I’ll need one to start this unconventional life I’m dreaming of.

Living out of a backpack on a fixed income is going to take some serious discipline. It’s a mental shift that I’m more that excited about, but if that motivation ever wanes, I’ll turn to this book.

‘m going to reach for this book when I need an understanding shoulder to cry on. This transition may not be easy and less understanding friends may cross my path. I’m going to let this book be the one who understands it all. It’s a witty and fun read about finding adventure wherever you may be.

I’ve done some house sitting stateside and think it could be a great way to slow travel my way around the world.

The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway

Spoiler Alert: I’ve actually already read this book and it changed my life. There’s something very freeing about knowing you aren’t the only lost soul on the planet. I’ve brought my paperback edition with me through five moves, so I think it’s time I reread it before purging most of my worldly possessions.

The Big Trip by Lonely Planet

This is the most comprehensive, guidebook-style book on the list. It has regional overviews with maps and itineraries, practical work related resources, and pre-trip planning.
